Holiday Closings

My Second Home Early Learning School is open year round, with the exception of Federal Holidays:

  • New Years Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Eve we will close at 4:00pm
  • Thanksgiving and day after (Thursday and Friday)
  • Christmas(24-26th)
  • New Year’s Eve we will close at 4:00pm

When we close early for holiday purposes, late fees are doubled for children that are picked up after our close times.  For example: if we close at 4:00pm for New Years Eve, late fees will start to accrue, if your child is picked up after this time.

For holidays that fall on the weekend, the holiday schedule will be adjusted. All parents will receive notification of dates.

Bad Weather Policy

On rare occasions, it may be necessary to close the center due to poor weather conditions. We will make every effort to open our doors at the normal time. If conditions are bad please watch television station Channel 6 and 10 for closing information. When we close early, the same rules for late pickups will apply. For example: if we close at 4:00pm for New Years Eve, late fees will start to accrue, if your child is picked up after this time.

Services such as transportation may be affected if deemed unsafe due to weather (e.g. icy roads). In this case, you will be notified and it will be your responsibility to provide transportation for your child/children.

In cases of utility failure (power outage, water loss, or heating (during winter months)), we will contact parents immediately and explain that pickup is expected in two hours, assuming that the utilities are not on. If utilities are restored within the two hour window, we will resume care, as scheduled. When we close early, the same rules for late pickups will apply.

Arrival and Departure

To make drop off and pick up easier for both parents and children and to ensure safety of the children, we have implemented the following procedures

Drop Off:

  1. Please notify the receptionist of the child(ren) that you are dropping off
  2. Please check your child in on the computer.
  3. Special messages, medications, pickup notes, etc are to be given to the staff member.
  4. Children may not be dropped off outside of the building or sent inside alone.
  5. A staff member will be with you to take your child to his or her class
  6. Your child is in great hands, HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Pick Up:

  1. Please notify the receptionist of the child(ren) you are picking up
  2. Please check your child out on the computer.
  3. Please have a seat and relax
  4. A staff member will bring your child(ren) to you
  5. SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

*Please note: parents are responsible for the supervision of their child before and after sign in/out. No child is permitted to be passed over the playground fence for pick up or drop off. You must come into the office to sign your child out of our care.

Late Pick Up Charge

There will be a late charge of $1.00 per minute if your child is picked up after your scheduled shift pick up time. The late arrival fee will also be charged to your account if your child is picked up after a deadline arrival time during emergency center closings (ex. Loss of power, water, or other natural occurrences). My Second Home Early Learning School understands that extenuating circumstances may occur. As a courtesy, each parent or guardian will be given two (2) emergency waivers, per calendar year.

In this case, if an emergency arises, and you cannot pick up your child before your scheduled pick up time, you need to contact us immediately and there will be no charge added to your account. We suggest that you use your emergency waivers wisely, as there will be no exceptions to this policy once you have used your waivers. We will use the clock near the sign in-out sheet to determine late charges, no exceptions.

Transportation

Transportation to and from area public schools are available. If your child is participating in our transportation program, you must notify your Director of any schedule changes before the bus run begins. My Second Home Early Learning School cannot be held responsible if the Director has not been notified of changes. An additional fee will be assessed if the center is not notified of changes.
